My Guys!

Here are just some fun pics of the guys!

Animal books are a favorite in this house and this one is no exception!!

Micaias being big in daddies hat

Isaias with his winning smile on!

Yup that's my guys!!!

Zorro!

Rob brought home the movie Zorro and well it turned into a day of crafts after the movie ended!!

The beginnings of Zorro.. He made the Z on his shirt all by himself and cut it out then taped it on without Robs help at all!!

Then came a cookie box Zorro hat!

And let the posing begin!

The super hero pose

and the Im going to get you pose!

Its amazing what you can do with a cookie box, broken plastic hanger, a old towel, some paper and a plastic wrap tube. Not to mention a little string and alot of tape!!

Soccer practice!

We found a place for the boys to play soccer here. It is with a mix group of foreigners who have a Brazilian coach! They have it one day a week and love it! And we love it because its very close to the house!!

Here is Isaias running his warm up!

And this is Elias running warm ups through the cones.

This isn't a very clear picture but I thought it was kinda cool! Elias is kicking a little blue soccer ball which is the fuzzy thing at about his arm.

Splitting up to scrimmage a little. Elias is in the yellow/green color second from the left and Isaias is in the orange all the way to the right.

Trying to get the ball from the coach! Elias is right after the coach and Isaias is right behind him!

Sorry another fuzzy pic of Elias

Stretching

And posing for the camera. The fighting Johnstons!

These are the smallest uniform that they had! Rob and I laughed so hard the first time they tried them on! There socks go up to there thighs and the shorts go down to there ankles with the shirt that is down to there knees! Rob worked on the uniforms and came up with what they look like in the pictures! Not half bad! :0)

Roberts culture experiance

Robert not wanting to be out done by me on culture learning decided that he would try something new as well!
Do to the rock hard beds or the constant pounding of walking everywhere Roberts back can get extremely tight. So to counter measure that he has been going to get a massage every once and awhile (tough life I know). This day he had a little cold as well and his lower back was bugging him SO the couple who runs the place suggested that he try getting a massage then getting a treatment that helps to increase your blood circulation. So he did! And this is the out come!

Its done by warming little glasses then sticking them on you back! He came home with about 25-30 of these marks all over his back! He said that it felt really good and he slept really good that night as well. Elias woke him up the next morning, took one look at his back then declared that daddy needed a bandage! Then rob sat up to show him and Elias said "MOM daddy needs alot of bandaids!!! Alot alot!" It took about a week for the purple round dots to go away and yes he looks normal now! I told him he looked like he was tatooed by a very drunk clown! Anyway life is good here and were learning lots! I've learned that I never want to have this done so thanks rob for taking the lead on this culture experiance! I will stick to making Jio zi!!!

making jio zi

Today we made jio zi, a boiled dumpling with meat and vegetables inside, traditionally its from the northern parts of china. My language helper if from the north and so we made her mothers "recipe". Its not really a recipe it's "does it look, feel, and smell right then its good" kinda recipe.

Here is my language helper and Elias with part of me (it was my turn to kneed the dough)

After the dough is kneeded till your arms just about fall off then its ready!! It has to be very elasticy or it will fall apart when boiled. You roll the dough into little circles (which is a skill in its self) and then fill with the raw mixture. This has pork, onion, soysauce, salt, pepper, fennal, and a little oil.
This is me stuffing and folding the little dumplings.

And making them pretty. They cant just taste good they also have to look good to. Not to mention that if there not sealed well then in the heavy boil of the water they will come apart then they don't look so good either !

Here are some of the finished produces just coming out of a boil, add cold water, boil, add cold water , boil cooking cycle. If there not cooled in between then they have a chance of exploding as well.

To eat you simple make a garlic and soysauce mix, dip, and consume!

I told my language helper that although they were the best jio zi I had ever eaten that they were mafan (trouble)! I think we made some were around two hundred of them to feed my family, her and a couple of friends! It was fun and also a great way to learn language and culture as well as getting to eat something delicious!
